Seek To Find Or Get Worse!

When I flew around the sky, in a Navy jet (with 2 jet-fuel-to-noise converters in the back), there were 3 sets of people that checked the plane before the launch as part of their jobs. First, the plane captain. It was his job to have the plane ready for take off. Second, the trouble shooters would come by, to make sure the plane captain didn’t miss anything. Lastly, the aircrew did a walk-around, for the same reason.
Years later people would ask me why so many checks? Were the line crew or the Tomcat that bad? No, after refuting their point, my answer was often something like the following:
Certainly, the triple-check was there to improve safety and confidence in each other and the equipment. Yet, if something did go wrong, and no one caught it, who paid what price?
Well, for the first two who checked, it was agony and self-doubt. How could they have missed it? Was it their fault? They certainly were well-trained and certified. Self-forgiveness would not come quickly, and certainly not without the help of others. For the third, it may be a physical price, they may get seriously injured or even die.
I told people that since “mother nature” would have me pay the highest price, I held the highest responsibility to get it right. It was not a question of trusting others, it was a question of accepting responsibility for one’s own life.
What’s my point?
  • Anyone who is hungry, and doesn’t search for food, stays hungry.
  • Anyone who is thirsty, and doesn’t search for water, stays thirsty.
  • Anyone who is cold, and doesn’t search for shelter, stays cold.
  • Anyone who is dirty, and doesn’t search for a way to wash, stays dirty.
  • Anyone who is lonely, and doesn’t search for companionship, stays lonely.
  • Anyone who is unlearned, and doesn’t search (google?) knowledge, stays unlearned.
  • Anyone who is poor, and doesn’t search for ways to earn more, stays poor.
  • Anyone who is filled with hate, and doesn’t search for love, stays filled with hate.
  • Anyone who is depressed, and doesn’t search for good, stays depressed.
  • Anyone who is ashamed, and doesn’t search for forgiveness, stays ashamed.
  • Anyone who is self-centered, and doesn’t search for maturity, stays selfish.
  • Anyone who is spiritually empty, and doesn’t search for God, stays empty.

Actually, those who don’t search for what they need, get worse.

Here’s some centuries-old very valued sources that support this post:

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
Matthew 7:8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Luke 11:9-10 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
and my favorite of all of them, giving the most hope:
Acts 17:27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.
