Contest Tips
(Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire)

To win at: Color PokeBlocks and
Scarf Needed:
Cool Red
Beauty Blue
Cute Pink
Smart Green
Tough Yellow

Note how the five flavors of berries match the five attributes for the Poke'mon, and they are color-coded. Red is for "cool"; Blue is for "beauty"; Pink is for "cute"; Green is for "Smart" and Yellow is for "Tough". Use this guide to pick which berries to blend (with two friends) to maximize the level for the attribute you want. For example, if you want to raise "Coolness", use three berries that are spicy. To get the best "feel" for the berry, blend well. You want to achieve a high "level" number and a low "feel" number when you are done. Click here for Berry Data.

The proper scarf helps your Pokemon do well in the first half of the contest. To get the Scarf needed, first maximize your Pokemon's related attribute through the proper use of Poke-Blocks, then visit the Club in SlatePort. Place that Pokemon in the front of your group, and visit the leader of the Club (to the left of the Pokemon Center). He'll give you the scarf you need.

If you want the ultimate prize in the contests, to have your pokemon painted by the artist and the portrait hung in the Museum, you need more. You need to do very, very well in the appeals portion of the contest. It appears that getting the crowd going at least once (in addition to winning!) is important. That means balancing your contest attacks for Jamming and Appeal, as well as for Combo Moves and tracking the audience level of excitement.

When you have made an appeal, and the Judge is "looking at you expectantly" know that you have just made the first half of a combo. Next turn, whichever attacks are in red will finish the combo. If none are in red, you may have to evolve that pokemon into learning new moves, or take a heart scale to the Move Tutor to learn an move you have forgotten.
