Comprehensive Booklist

Here's a long list of all the books that are recommend on this sight. Yes, I have read them all, at least once, some I have read over 20 times. (I'm still learning from them!) Yes, you will find some of these books listed under more than one section. If they belong there, I listed them there!

Compassion/Empathy

If Only He Knew, by Gary Smalley This book truly helped me and my wife set the stage for a better marriage at home. I needed it's help.

Please Understand Me by Marilyn Bates and David Keirsey This brings out the best of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, known as the MBTI. This told why others didn't relate to what I was saying!

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, by John Gray  I can't argue his theory as to why we are the way we are, AND I found myself both laughing and agreeing as to the wisdom in here. So did my wife!

Growth

The Prayer of Jabez, by Bruce Wilkinson This makes a powerful point, and offers you a radical way of thinking about your Creator and you!

The sequel, "Secrets of the Vine" is also powerful, explaining the process of pruning!

The third book, "A Life God Rewards" shows you how what you do in this life has a major impact on your life after death!

The Magic of Thinking Big, by David J. Schwartz Powerfully written, it made a lasting impression and change in my life. How about you?

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey The best book anywhere on how to change for the better, and why it is a good idea to even try to be more than you are now.

The Spirit of the Disciplines, by Dallas Willard Powerful book on the reason and attitude of undertaking spiritual steps, about getting a better understanding of our spiritual side.

Celebration of Discipline, by Richard Foster A great book outlining the value and 'how to' of the spiritual disciplines. Don't go overboard on them, but don't ignore them, either.

Jesus Freaks Learn about the price that some pay for their convictions, and see how easy you have it in your life!

Greatest Salesman In The World, by Og Mandino Going through the scrolls in this story helped me during a tough time. Try them, you may find it very uplifting as I did!

Magic of Thinking Big, by David J. Schwartz Powerfully written, it made a lasting change in my life. How about you?

The Return of the Prodigal Son, by Henri Nouwen Wow. This is not 'get-fired-up' inspirational, but inspirational in that it took me deeper, and gave me more hope as a result, than ANYTHING I have ever read. I had to read it slow, but boy was my heart going fast!

The Road Less Traveled, by Scott Peck This also took me deeper, and helped me want to get off the 'wider' and more popular road that many travel. My individuality grew stronger after reading this book, even though I left the "anchovies" on the shelf.

The Gift of Acabar, by Og Mandino and Buddy Kaye. A great story, about what many of us desire to learn and accept!

Leadership

Spiritual Leadership: moving People on to God's Agenda. This is one of the greatest books on leading other people that I have ever read, or given to friends as a gift.

Bringing Out the Best in People I've used this as a manager, naval leader, counselor, father, and co-worker. This is very good stuff!

How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie I have given away over 50 copies of this one over the years. Impressive book. It is well written and very easy to read. Just take your time doing so.

First, Break All the Rules Published by the Gallup Poll Organization. This is the largest study of its kind ever taken, showing "What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently" This is a HUGE study of the world's greatest managers and what they do differently. If you are a great manager, this will reinforce what you already know. If you are normal, or mediocre, this may help you wake up!

Greatest Salesman in The World, by Og Mandino Some say that leadership starts within. Well, if so, this book may be the key. Going through the scrolls in this story helped me during a tough time.

The Art of Helping, by Robert R. Carkhuff If they need a listener, if you want to help them through tough calls, this is it!

Bringing Out the Best in People, by Alan Loy McGinnis I've used this as a manager, naval leader, counselor, father, and co-worker. Very good stuff!

The Friendship Factor It explains what people that have many friends do to be that way! I wanted to learn!

How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie Systematic, organized, detailed. All those things I am not by nature. This goes over many things, and has sold millions of copies worldwide. I often re-read it, but not often enough!

The Art of Helping If they need a listener, if you want to help them through tough calls, this is it! Here's how to help them AND help them keep being responsible, too!

Man's Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl Read what this psychologist learned while in Nazi death camps about people, when they truly had lost everything. What he observed was awful, what he learned, and passes on to us, is powerful!

The Go-Getter: A Story That Tells You How To Be One, by Peter B. Kyne If self-pity is tempting for you, here is a story about someone who didn't go down that path. If you want to read about persistence, here's the book for you! Wow!

Psycho-Cybernetics, by Maxwell Maltz Did you know that an air-to-air missile is off-target 100% of the time while enroute to its target? Sounds like me! Yet it strikes the target almost all the time. It's not being off-target that is the issue, it's what you do when you find out you are off-target that matters! Read this to find out how and why!

Steps to a New Beginning Leading Others to Christ Through the 12 Step process. No, it is not a requirement to become a "Christian" in order to stay sober. For some, it helps.

The Ten Commandments By popular (2nd only to Rush Limbaugh in audience) talk-show host, Dr. Laura Schlessinger. This is a very practical guide to why it is important to have a standard to live up to.

God's Greatest Secrets This daily devotional kicked me in the teeth in a very pleasant way. I owe this author very much, and pay him back by letting you in on the secrets!

My Utmost for His Highest This daily devotional, especially when combined with the one above, really helps me to see things very differently, and better!

Serenity This 12-step companion New Testament is powerful, and available for free through this link!

Celebrate the Feasts. This wonderful book covers the Jewish "High Holy Days" or "Feasts". It explains their significance in history, the materials you need to celebrate them and all the details. Some say that an understanding of these feasts is the key to the Messiah's return. He fulfilled the spring feasts on His first visit, TO THE DAY, and may be set to fulfill the autumn feasts in the same fashion.

Black Elk Speaks No, this is NOT Judeo-Christian. But look closely at some of his statements, and see the relationship!

The Pursuit of God by A. W. Tozer If you want to find God in your daily life, start pursuing Him!

A Violent Grace by Michael Card. Don't think the grace of God is cheap, or this book will blow you away!

Politics and Economics

The Fair Tax Book This book fully explains both the pros and cons of the Fair Tax, a proposed replacement for the current income tax in America.

Life's Tidbits

Man's Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl This psychologist's observations as a death-camp prisoner are amazing. He truly made the best of a bad situation. I benefited from his sharing from the laboratory of life.

Classic Christianity, by Bob George What is now in many churches is not what this book sees as the best. I agree. I believe that God also agrees.

The Screwtape Letters, by C. S. Lewis I have read this book every 4 years as recommended by the person that loaned it to me. It changed over time from being hilariously funny, to perceptive, to revealing, to thoughtful, ...
